Omeruo scores In Kasimpasa loss to Wilfred Zaha’s Galatasaray

Nigerian defender Kenneth Omeruo scored a goal for Kasimpasa in their 2-1 Turkish Super Lig loss to a Wilfred Zaha inspired Galatasaray on Friday night.

Omeruo [30] scored in the 54th minute to halve the deficit after Ivorien forward Wilfred Zaha scored twice for the champions.

Zaha fired Galatasaray ahead at the Rams park in the 33rd minute before extending the lead to 2-0 in the 51st minute.

Three minutes after the second goal, Nigeria’s Kenneth Omeruo scored to put his side back in contention when he rose highest to head home from a corner-kick but there was no way back as the hosts held on to claim maximum points.

While the win saw Galatasaray climb to the top of the league table on 31 points, Kasimpasa are in 5th place on 18 points.

In his post-match reaction, Omeruo expressed delight over getting his first goal of the season against ‘one of the best teams in Europe

“What a game tonight? We deserved more. So happy with my first goal of the season, and also proud of this team. We keep going,” he wrote on Instagram.

“Galatasaray are one of the best teams in Europe. It is not easy to play here. Our legs were shaking.”

Omeruo rejoined Kasimpasa for a third spell this summer from Spanish Segunda Divison club CD Leganes.

Omeruo and Zaha are expected to come up against each other when the Super Eagles of Nigeria face Côte d’Ivoire at next year’s AFCON in the French speaking country.

Both teams are in Group A alongside Equatorial Guinea and Guinea-Bissau at next year’s tournament.

All things being equal, Kenneth Omeruo and Wilfred Zaha will make their countries squad for the AFCON.
