Osimhen features as Real Madrid down Napoli in UCL
Super Eagles striker has goal disallowed for Partenopei
Victor Osimhen was in action for Napoli as they fell to a 4-2 defeat at the hands of Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.
New Napoli boss Walter Mazzarri opted to start Osimhen from the bench as he continues to slowly ease him back from his recent injury.
The Italian side opened the scoring in the ninth minute when Argentine striker Giovanni Simeone, who started in place of Osimhen, found the back of the net.
Real Madrid responded immediately and drew level two minutes later when Brazilian forward Rodrygo scored to keep up his impressive form in front of goal.
It was soon the turn of Jude Bellingham to deliver a reminder of his qualities in front of goal, and the 20-year-old headed home his 15th goal of the season to give his side the lead in the 22nd minute.
Osimhen was introduced off the bench at halftime, replacing his side’s goalscorer Simeone for the second period.
Napoli found an equaliser just two minutes into the second half when Andre Frank Zambo Anguissa fired home following a botched clearance from Real Madrid.
Osimhen fired home clinically following a through pass from Matteo Politano, but his effort was ruled out for a clear offside.
With time running out, Real Madrid went ahead through teenage star Nico Paz, who had been introduced off the bench. The Argentine teenager struck his first goal for the club with a fierce effort from outside the box in the 84th minute.
Los Blancos completed the win in the 94th minute when Bellingham turned provider, setting up veteran striker Joselu to fire into an empty net and seal the win in the encounter.
Real Madrid and Napoli remain atop the standings in Group C with 15 and seven points, respectively.
