Rangers Boss backs Cyriel Dessers to Improve and prove worth

Glasgow Rangers manager, Philippe Clement, has expressed confidence in the improvement and potential impact of Nigerian forward Cyriel Dessers at the Scottish club.

Dessers faced criticism for his early performances with Rangers after joining from Serie A side Cremonese in the summer.

Despite a slow start, Dessers has shown progress in recent weeks, scoring crucial goals in both the UEFA Champions League and the Scottish League Cup.

The 29-year-old forward netted four goals in his last eight Premiership games and contributed to Rangers’ victory in the League Cup final against Aberdeen.

Clement acknowledged Dessers’ improvement, highlighting his recent performances and contributions to the team’s success.

While not ruling out potential signings during the January transfer window, Clement emphasized the importance of giving Dessers more time to fully integrate into the squad.

The Belgian manager stated, “Cyriel Dessers is improving; he scored last weekend and also on Thursday against Betis. It is my job to make choices, together with the board, of what we should do in January to strengthen the core.”

Clement also emphasized that evaluating a player’s performance after just three months is premature, and he believes in working hard with the existing players to bring out their best.

Dessers, who has represented the Nigerian national team, may also be involved in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in January, providing him with further opportunities to showcase his abilities.
