Stefano Pioli holds talks with Samuel Chukwueze amidst struggle for form

Reports from Italy indicate that AC Milan manager Stefano Pioli has engaged in a discussion with Nigerian winger Samuel Chukwueze regarding his role for the remainder of the season as he struggles for form.

Chukwueze, who recently returned to the San Siro after representing Nigeria at AFCON, has faced challenges in making consistent impact since joining Milan from Villarreal last summer.

According to La Gazetta Dello via Sempremilan, the private meeting between Pioli and Chukwueze occurred at the club’s Milanello training complex, reflecting Pioli’s efforts to reintegrate the player into first-team plans following a prolonged absence.

After featuring in some games for Nigeria at AFCON 2023 and helping the team reach the final, Chukwueze struggled to leave a mark during his rare Serie A start against Monza, where Milan suffered a 4-2 defeat last-week.

Pioli understands the importance of regular game time for Chukwueze to rediscover his top form and is hopeful that their heart-to-heart conversation will serve as a catalyst for improved performances.

With AC Milan holding a comfortable 3-0 lead over Stade Rennes in the Europa League round of 16, the upcoming second leg presents an opportunity for Chukwueze to reignite his Milan career.

Following a disappointing showing in his first match back from AFCON, the Super Eagles star may receive another chance to impress Pioli from the starting lineup on Thursday night.

This season, Samuel Chukwueze has played 21 times, 11 of which have been starts with 10 substitute appearances, scoring 2 goals adn providing 1 assist.
