Off the Pitch

The Hobbies of Athletes Outside of the Game

When you picture what it’s like to be a professional athlete, money, and fame are the first two rewards that spring to mind. It makes sense: despite employing a tiny workforce, professional athletes provide a unique talent in an industry that earns billions of dollars.

Instead of worrying about what to wear to a confusingly casual job, athletes may focus on their training and don’t have to fret about what exactly counts as business-casual gear. Or navigate the murky waters of ever-shifting kitchen politics in an office setting.

However, that is simply the reality of our existence. Athletes receive free food and drink, free admission, free Beats, and free bulk shoes and clothing if they have sponsorship deals.

Serena Williams’ name frequently comes to mind when one thinks of tennis. She and her talented sister Venus learned how to play the game while growing up in Compton, California, in the 1980s, primarily from their parents and a select group of influential instructors.

Arguably, the best professional basketball player of all time is Michael Jordan. He not only got his club to six NBA Finals, but he also made sure they won all of them. In addition, he has six MVP (most valuable player) awards from his illustrious Chicago Bulls career. Considering that he was cut from his high school basketball team, this is astounding. The game must have taught him a lot.

Athletes are also fond of other hobbies apart from their known sport, which is what will be discussed now. Some even play other online games, like poker; you can click here for more on that.

Neymar Jr.

Many people consider Neymar Jr. to be among the greatest football players in the world. He is particularly well-known for his amazing finishing, pace, and dribbling abilities. Since his debut on this stage at the age of 18, Neymar has made 94 appearances for the Brazilian national team, scoring 59 goals.

In the middle of the 2010s, the 26-year-old began to make waves in the poker world. With his pal, poker pro-Felipe Ramos, he was spotted participating in cash games. Neymar regularly opens his mansion for home games. He occasionally participates in live tournaments as well; in the 2018 Brazilian Series of Poker in Sao Paulo, he placed sixth.

Mike Tyson

Mike Tyson, dubbed “The Baddest Man on the Planet,” requires no introduction. One of the fiercest heavyweight fighters to ever enter the ring, the former World Heavyweight Champion is as well-known as he is fierce.

But having raised the birds since they were young and developed a strong interest in pigeon racing, “Iron Mike” finds peace of mind in the pigeon coop. Mike Tyson is undoubtedly a special man who enjoys what is undoubtedly a special pastime.

Cristiano Ronaldo

Many people believe that Cristiano Ronaldo is currently the best football player in the world and may eventually become the greatest of all time. At just twenty-nine years old, Ronaldo has already achieved some amazing feats on the field.

Ronaldo finds comfort in playing bingo when he’s off the pitch and away from the spotlight; he even claims that the game has improved his English. CR7 is demonstrating that bingo isn’t only a pastime for frail old ladies.

Tia-Clair Toomey

The American forward has set a lot of personal records in addition to team records. She had a long-standing desire to play professional soccer. With more goals than any other player in the history of women’s soccer, she is among the best players ever. However, when she was younger, her love for the sport wasn’t the only one. Tia-Clair Toomey had an intense love for the arts as well. And as of right now, nothing has changed. Tia-Clair is a painter, sculptor, and artist.

Serena Williams

In addition to her extraordinary accomplishments on the tennis court, Serena Williams is renowned for her wide range of extracurricular pursuits. Fashion is one of her well-known interests. Serena’s intense love for fashion design inspired her to pursue a career in the industry.

Her interest in fashion is not merely theoretical; she has started her clothing brand and is actively involved in the industry. Her line of clothing attempts to empower women by showcasing fashionable yet cozy looks that mirror her sense of taste.

Conclusion

For athletes in any sport, the demands of competing at the highest level on a global scale can have a negative psychological and physical impact. Athletes, therefore, need to discover their balance in life. These aren’t Saturday afternoon pick-up games. These players are expected to win these highly competitive, high stakes matches at all costs.
