Trent Alexander-Arnold to Leave Liverpool After 20 Years at the Club
Trent Alexander-Arnold has announced he will leave Liverpool when his contract ends on 30 June 2025, bringing an end to his 20-year journey with the club.
Liverpool confirmed the news in a statement on Tuesday, saying the 26-year-old defender has decided not to renew his contract. Trent, who joined Liverpool’s academy at just six years old, is expected to join Spanish giants Real Madrid on a free transfer. Reports from Spain suggest he will sign a six-year deal.
Trent made his senior debut in 2016 and has since become one of the club’s key players, known for his brilliant passing and creativity from right-back. He has played 352 matches, scored 23 goals, and assisted many more with his sharp vision and attacking style.
His time at Liverpool has been full of success. He helped the team win the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, Club World Cup, and several other trophies — eight major honours in total. He was also part of the squad that recently won the 2024/25 Premier League title.
Speaking about his decision, Alexander-Arnold said:
“This hasn’t been easy. I’ve spent 20 years at Liverpool, and I’ve loved every minute of it. I’ve achieved all my dreams here. But I believe the time has come for a new challenge, both as a player and as a person.”
The news will come as a surprise to many Liverpool fans, who had hoped he would remain at the club alongside other key players like Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk.
