U20WC: IFK Goteborg ‘SAY NO’ to NFF’s request for Alhassan Yusuf to shuttle between Poland and Sweden

Flying Eagles will be travelling to FIFA U20 World Cup without one of their important players Alhassan Yusuf as his Swedish club, IFK Goteborg said no to NFF’s plea for the player to be released.

After his successful transfer to the Swedish side, Alhassan Yusuf who played a role before the Flying Eagles qualify for FIFA World Cup made his intention to continue to represent Nigeria known.

But his club were adamant on releasing their priced asset who has shone like a million stars in his first three games for the Swedish giants.

In their bid to get their man, NFF made a proposal to IFK Goteborg that Alhassan Yusuf will be allowed to shuttle between Poland and Sweden if released to the Flying Eagles but the Swedish club have rejected the request.

The IFK Goteborg sporting director Kennet Andersson said Alhassan Yusuf is an important part of their plan for the new season and that after discussions with both the coaches and medical team, it was not possible for the player to shuttle between the World Cup and his club.

The Flying Eagles are drawn alongside Qatar, USA and Ukraine in the 2019 FIFA U20 World Cup.
