Victor Osimhen Rejects Al Hilal’s Mega Money: Is He Right or Wrong?
Victor Osimhen has once again found himself at the center of a fierce debate in the football world and for good reason. Despite an eye watering offer from Saudi Arabian giants Al Hilal, which would have seen him walk away with a fortune, Osimhen has chosen to stay in Europe.
The reported €75 million agreement between Napoli and Al Hilal was in place, yet the player declined the personal terms marking the fifth time he has turned down an offer from the Saudi club.
Now the question echoes loudly: Is Osimhen right or wrong to reject such a lucrative move?
The Case for Saudi Arabia: “Secure the Bag”
Many fans especially from Nigeria are asking a fair question: why say no to life changing money?
The Saudi Pro League has transformed into a “money league” attracting big name stars from Europe. Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, and Sadio Mané etc, have all made the switch, with paychecks that dwarf what most European clubs can offer. The argument here is simple: career spans are short. Injuries can strike at any time. If someone is offering you generational wealth, why not take it?
Especially considering that Osimhen is approaching 27, some would argue he has nothing left to prove in Europe after winning the Serie A title with Napoli, the Turkish League with Galatasaray and consistently finishing among the top scorers.
So yes, the Nigerian spirit in many of us let’s be honest might have jumped at the chance to sign on the dotted line and head to Riyadh for guaranteed riches.
The Case for Europe: “Legacy Before Luxury”
But Osimhen sees things differently and it’s hard not to respect that. By rejecting Al Hilal’s mega deal, Osimhen is choosing legacy over luxury, at least for now.
His loan spell at Galatasaray in the 2024/25 season was nothing short of phenomenal: 37 goals in 41 matches, reminding everyone why he remains one of the most coveted strikers in Europe. With Chelsea reportedly interested, and top Italian clubs circling, Osimhen clearly believes he still has unfinished business in Europe titles to win, Ballon d’Or shouts to earn, and Champions League nights to enjoy.
Many believe this is the right decision. Osimhen has always played with fire in his belly and a desire to represent Africa on the biggest stages. The Saudi Pro League, while growing, still lacks the prestige of UEFA’s top competitions. If he makes the move now, some fear it may be a permanent step away from elite level football.
What’s Next for Osimhen?
Per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Al Hilal may now pivot to other striker options, while Napoli are still eager to sell. Osimhen will take his time deciding on the next step.
Whether he ends up in London, Istanbul, or Milan, one thing is clear: Osimhen is betting on himself. He’s made it clear that money alone isn’t the deciding factor for his future.
My Final Verdict: Right or Wrong?
Right.
For me, Osimhen is making a brave and principled choice. There’s nothing wrong with chasing money especially when it’s this much but there’s something deeply admirable about a player who wants to first build a legacy, inspire millions, and represent African excellence at the very top level before cashing in.
Time will tell how his story unfolds, but for now, Victor Osimhen is not just playing for goals he’s playing for greatness.
