Victor Osimhen’s Selfless Gesture Helps Morata Score First Goal for Galatasaray
Victor Osimhen displayed remarkable sportsmanship during Galatasaray’s Turkish Super Lig match against Adana Demirspor by allowing teammate Alvaro Morata to take a penalty, leading to Morata’s first league goal for the club.
The two strikers, who have quickly developed a strong on-field partnership, were involved in the key moment of the match. With the game 32 minutes in, former Napoli playmaker Dries Mertens won a penalty for Galatasaray. Although Osimhen is the team’s designated penalty taker, he selflessly stepped aside to give Morata the opportunity to take the spot-kick.
Morata confidently converted the penalty, marking his first goal in the Turkish Super Lig since joining Galatasaray on loan from Milan. The Spanish striker celebrated the goal with Osimhen, showing his appreciation for the Nigerian forward’s unselfish gesture. Morata’s goal was also his second in just three appearances for the club, demonstrating that his addition is already having a positive impact.
Osimhen’s act of kindness not only strengthened their partnership but also highlighted his leadership and commitment to the team over individual accolades. The Super Eagles forward has been exceptional for Galatasaray this season, netting 17 goals in 22 appearances across all competitions, and has been a reliable penalty taker for the team.
Despite Galatasaray’s strong performance, the match was marred by controversy. Adana Demirspor’s technical director, Mustafa Alper Avci, instructed his players to walk off the pitch in protest of the penalty decision, leading to the official abandonment of the game.
The Turkish Football Federation is now expected to review the situation and decide on the next steps.
