Why we signed Nigerian midfielder – Alhassan Yusuf’s new coach speaks
New England Revolution coach Caleb Porter has shared insights into the club’s decision to sign Nigeria’s Super Eagles midfielder Alhassan Yusuf.
The signing, officially announced after Yusuf passed his medical, brings the talented Nigerian international to the Major League Soccer side.
Porter highlighted Yusuf’s impressive credentials, noting his experience at both the international level and in the Champions League. He expressed confidence that Yusuf will quickly become an elite midfielder in MLS.
“Alhassan Yusuf is an athletic, box-to-box central midfielder with all the qualities we look for in our double pivots,” Porter said. “He is very complete on both sides of the ball, bringing strong defensive ball-winning capabilities and adding verticality to our attack.”
Porter emphasized that Yusuf’s addition is significant, as he is in the prime of his career and possesses valuable championship experience, having been part of the victorious Royal Antwerp squad that won the Belgian Jupiler Pro League two seasons ago.
