Chelsea keen to avoid Arsenal mistake with move for Legend

CHELSEA are keen to hand Frank Lampard a role at the club to avoid making the same mistake Arsenal did with Patrick Vieira, according to reports.

The Daily Mail say the Blues are keen to keep hold of their former greats in ambassadorial or coaching roles when they hang up their boots.

Lampard is weighing up his future after being released from New York City FC by their boss Vieira.

It is not clear yet whether the 38-year-old will retire or keep on playing.

However, if he does quit, Chelsea will be at the front of the queue with an offer.

The top brass at Stamford Bridge want to avoid what happened to Vieira and Arsenal happening to Lampard.

The World Cup winner ended up taking on a coaching role at Manchester City before heading to their sister club in MLS.

It was a missed opportunity by the Gunners which could come back to bite them if he takes a role elsewhere in England.

On leaving New York, Lampard said: “As my time at New York City comes to an end, I would like to thank so many people for the kindness and support that they have shown me over the last two years.

“My team-mates have been a pleasure to play alongside. The amazing fans have given me incredible support and backing.”
