AAG 2019: Raymond Ekevwo clocks the 2nd fastest time in AAG history to win 100m gold

Nigeria’s Raymond Ekevwo has won a gold medal in the 100m event at the 2019 All African Games.

The Nigerian athlete dug deep beating the bookies favourite Cote d’Ivoire’s Arthur Cisse and competition from his compatriot Usheoritse Itsekiri the reigning Nigerian champion.

Raymond Ekevwo clocked 9.96s his personal best which was just 1 second shy of the Championship Record of 9.95s set by Deji Aliu at the 2003 African Games in Abuja.

Arthur Cissé won the silver medal with a time of 9.97s while Usheoritse Itsekiri with a time of 10.02 to complete the podium places.

This is the first time a Nigerian athlete will be claiming a gold medal in 100m since Olusoji Fasuba 12 years ago in Algiers.
