Abakiliki FC confirm NNL return after slot purchase

Abakaliki FC have confirmed they will play in the 2025-26 Nigeria National League (NNL) after acquiring a slot from another club.

The team, known as the Rice Boys, got a promotion spot from Hammola FC, which means they can now play in the second division next season.

Abakaliki FC were relegated to the Nationwide League One (NLO) last season.

“Our place in the NNL for the 2025-26 season is now confirmed,” said the club’s media officer, Chukwuma Ogbonna-Torchlight, to DAILY POST.

The club made headlines with a great performance in the 2025 President Federation Cup. They finished as runners-up after losing 4-3 on penalties to top-tier side Kwara United in the final.
