African Games: Medal rush as team Nigeria wins 54 medals on day 13 to go 2nd on the table

There was no stopping team Nigeria yesterday at the ongoing African Games in Rabat, Morocco.

Nigerian athletes won medals in different shades in total of 49 to move from 4th place on the log to 2nd after 13 days of action.

A clean sweep in the men’s table table tennis with Olajide Omotayo beating Aruna Quadri to the gold medal; Segun Toriola and Omar Assar settled for the bronze medal.

Another clean sweep for Nigerian female wrestlers in all six categories they participated in; Onyebuchi (76kg), Genesis (50kg), Adekuoroye (57kg), Adeniyi (62kg), Oborududu (68kg) while Bose (53kg) settled for Silver.

The Falconets also beat Cameroon 3-2 on penalties to win gold medal in women football.

All in all Nigeria won 20 gold, 15 silver and 19 bronze for a total of 54 on Thursday alone.

Thursday fest pushed Nigeria’s medal haul to 40 gold 28 silver 35 bronze and a total of 103 medals.

Occupying first spot is Egypt with 79 gold, 87 silver and 63 bronze for a total of 229; South Africa third with 32 gold, 24 silver and 21 bronze for a total of 77 medals.
