CAF CL/CC: Comeback wins for Plateau United, Rivers United, Kwara United in second preliminary round first leg ties

Plateau United, Rivers United and Kwara United all secured comeback wins over Esperance, Wydad Casablanca and RSB Berkane in the first leg of their CAF Champions League and Confederation cup second preliminary round ties on Sunday evening.

Plateau United FC defeated Esperance of Tunisia 2-1 at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja, while Rivers United FC conquered Morocco’s Wydad Casablanca by the same scoreline in Port Harcourt.

Badri A. opened the scoring for visiting Esperance at the national stadium Abuja before Plateau United FC responded through Ifeanyi Eze (34) and Mustapha Yuga (45 +1) to hold a 2-1 first leg advantage.

At the Adokieye Amasiamaka stadium Port Harcourt, Two goals in three minutes for either side sparked life into the encounter between NPFL Champions Rivers United and CAF Champions League Champions Wydad Casablanca.

First Sambou B. shot Wydad Casablanca in front in the 32nd minute before Malachi Ohawuma leveled scores from a quick restart in the 35th minute.

Paul Acquah scored what turned out to be the winner in the 54th minute for Rivers United FC who will head to Morocco for the return leg with a slim 2-1 advantage.

In the CAF Confederation Cup, Kwara United FC recovered from a first half deficit to power past RSB Berkane at the Mobolaji Johnson Stadium, Lagos.

Tafoek, Jimoh and Barnabas on target in a convincing second half performance for the Harmony boys to defeat CAF Confederation Cup defending Champions Berkane in the first leg.

Aggregate winners of all three games will proceed to the money-spinning group stage of the CAF Champions League and Confederation cup respectively.
