CAF Withdraws Disciplinary Chief From AFCON 2025 Final Case

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has withdrawn Ousmane Keïta, Chairman of its Disciplinary Committee, from all matters linked to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final between Morocco and Senegal.

The decision was revealed by Egyptian journalist Mohamed Saïd, who is known to be close to CAF’s internal workings. It follows ongoing reviews into the controversial incidents that occurred during the final in Rabat, which Senegal won 1–0 after extra time.

The final was marred by several contentious moments, including protests on the pitch, heated exchanges and tense scenes after the match. These incidents sparked widespread debate across African football.

According to sources, Keïta, who is Senegalese, was stepped aside to avoid any perception of a conflict of interest and to strengthen confidence in the fairness and transparency of the disciplinary process. CAF’s Vice-President from Kenya has now been appointed to handle the case and lead the investigation.

CAF is currently reviewing official match reports, video footage and other relevant materials from the final. Possible disciplinary actions are still being considered.

The continental body has insisted that it is committed to protecting the integrity of its competitions and ensuring respect for match officials and regulations.

No sanctions have been announced yet, but CAF is expected to reach a decision in the coming days, following what has been described as one of the most controversial AFCON finals in recent history.
