Italian coach Roberto Landi eyes Super Eagles job, calls It a dream role

Italian coach Roberto Landi has expressed his interest in the vacant Super Eagles of Nigeria coaching position, calling it a dream job for any coach.

Roberto Landi said the quality of Nigerian football talent and the passionate support of the fans is a major attraction.

“The Nigerian national team is the dream job of every coach, thanks to the quality of talents in the country as well as the passion of Nigerians for the game,” Landi told The PUNCH.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is currently searching for a foreign technical adviser following the resignation of former coach Finidi George. George stepped down after only two games, following a 1-1 draw against South Africa and a 2-1 loss to Benin Republic in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. He had taken over from Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro, who led the team to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.

Several high-profile names have been linked with the Super Eagles job, including AFCON-winning coach Herve Renard, Antonio Conceicao, Luis Fernandez, Joaquin Caparros, Didier Six, and Miguel Herrera. Landi believes he has the qualifications to lead the team and fulfill the dreams of Nigerian football fans.

“It’s a dream for a coach to train a top senior national team like Nigeria. If you speak with Massimiliano Allegri and some Serie A coaches, if you offer Nigeria, it’s a dream because you represent more than 200 million people and among the top 20 strong countries in the world (not by FIFA rankings),” Landi stated.

The NFF’s search for a new coach comes amid a broader effort to revitalize the team after their disappointing start in the World Cup qualification series.
