John Obi Mikel wants to end career in the PL with Stoke City

John Obi Mikel is eyeing another run in the English Premier League after joining Stoke City on a permanent deal today.

The former Chelsea midfielder who left his last club Trabzonspor by mutual consent back in March signed a contract with the Championship side today.

A buzzing retired Super Eagles player said during his unveiling that he is looking to bring his wealth of experience to his new club.

“If I can bring that experience and winning mentality here, then I will be happy.”

Stoke manager Michael O’Neill also revealed that John Obi Mikel told him he plans ending his career in the Premier League with The Potters.

“I was really impressed with him when we met for the first time and he outlined what he wants from the next phase of his career.

“We spent four hours talking and he made it clear he wants to get back into the Premier League and finish his career there and hopefully he can do that with Stoke City.”

For him to achieve his dreams, he would have to help Stoke City gain promotion from Championship into the Premier League first.

Mikel made 249 Premier League appearances for Chelsea in an 11-year spell, which ended when he left Stamford Bridge in 2017.

He won the Champions League and Europa League, two Premier Leagues, three FA Cups and the League Cup during his time with the London club.
