Klopp to avoid ‘too many risks’ with team selection vs Arsenal

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is faced with selection challenges as his team prepares to face Arsenal in the FA Cup third-round tie on Sunday. Klopp has emphasized the difficulty of taking too many risks with his team selection for this crucial match.

The absence of key players adds to the challenge, with Mohamed Salah and Wataru Endo unavailable due to international duty, while Dominik Szoboszlai is ruled out with a hamstring issue for at least two matches.

Speaking about the team selection, Klopp stated, “I am not sure if Arsenal is now a game to rotate. I don’t know 100% if we have the opportunity to do so, to be honest.”

Despite the need to navigate a congested fixture schedule, Klopp highlighted that the six days between the recent games (since Newcastle on New Year’s Day) allow for a strong lineup without the necessity for extensive rotation.

The manager acknowledged the importance of the FA Cup clash against Arsenal, emphasizing the team’s desire to progress to the next round and ultimately reach the final.

Klopp outlined the equal significance of both the FA Cup and the upcoming games in their packed schedule.

Possible Liverpool XI vs Arsenal:

  • Goalkeeper: Alisson
  • Defenders: Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk, KonatĂ©, Gomez
  • Midfielders: Mac Allister, Gravenberch, Jones
  • Forwards: Elliott, NĂºĂ±ez, Jota

Klopp may look to Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch in midfield, while Harvey Elliott could be positioned on the right, replacing Salah.

The potential lineup showcases the manager’s determination to field a competitive team despite the challenges posed by player absences and the demanding schedule.
