Louis van Gaal unhappy with Bastian Schweinsteiger’s form

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has admitted that he expected Bastian Schweinsteiger to be “better” than how he has been playing since arriving from Bayern Munich in the summer.

The German World Cup winner made the move from the Allianz Arena for a fee reportedly in the region of £6m, but Van Gaal does not believe that the midfielder has made much of an impact.

“The reason why we have bought Schweinsteiger is because he’s a player who can lead and guide a team,” the Manchester Evening News quotes Van Gaal as saying.

“It’s not just because of his football abilities that we bought him. Until now we haven’t seen the best of Schweinsteiger – the player I saw at Bayern Munich.

I believe that in every match we have played he could have played better.

” When asked to pick out certain parts of his game that Schweinsteiger needs to improve on, Van Gaal said:

“I think I have to discuss with Bastian Schweinsteiger and not with you.

“Otherwise we have a tactical article about Bastian and then the reaction of the legends to that article so I don’t think that is wise, but I know he can be better.

” United recorded a third consecutive draw in all competitions at the weekend in a goalless stalemate against West Ham United at Old Trafford.
