Major Sporting Events Every Sport Lover Wants To Attend

If you’re a huge fan of sports, then you’re probably watching it continually on television, reading blogs with the latest sports news, listening to podcasts, and so on. All of these things will give you your dose of sporting passion. If you’re a sports fan, then all sporting related activity will be welcome! If you really want to indulge in your love of sports, then it’s recommended that you look at attending a major sporting event. There are plenty to choose from, all over the world.

In this blog, we’re going to run through all of the world’s biggest sporting events. It’s unlikely that you’ll be able to attend all of them (but good luck!), but if you take the time to make plans, then you might find that you can attend one or two. The tough thing will be deciding which events you want to go to, though!

The Champions League Final

There’s no bigger trophy in club football than the champions league final. Over the years, there have been some terrific matches, and it’s not hard to see why — this a match between the best two teams in Europe, and, since the world’s best players are in Europe, always means that the quality is as high as can be. While it would be ideal to see the team you support in the champions league final, the truth is that it’s not overly important who’s playing. You’ll have an amazing time no matter which clubs are competing for glory, especially if it’s a good game.

The Super Bowl

The champions league final may be the biggest club competition in the world, but it’s not the case in the United States. They’re not so interested in soccer, even though it is becoming more popular with each passing year. They have their own version of the champions league, however — it’s just for a different sport. The Super Bowl takes place each year somewhere in the United States (the venue changes each year), and is played between the two best American football teams. While the game can be exciting, it’s more about the overall event. There’s entertainment everywhere, including on the field at half-time. Whether you’re a massive fan of the sport or not, there’s no denying that it’s an event that really stands out from the crowd — and that you’ll have a memorable time if you go.

The Kentucky Derby

A day at the races is about much more than just horse racing. That’s the focal point, sure, but there’s much more to love. It’s a social day, an occasion to get dressed up, have a good time with friends, and watch horses at the peak of their powers. In the United States, the standout race is the Kentucky Derby, which is just one of the races of the Triple Crown. While it’s fun to participate in the race from afar using Kentucky Derby online betting, you’ll find that, if you can make it to Louisville, you’ll have a few days to remember. There’s always a buzz around Louisville in the run up to the big race. A good atmosphere is guaranteed!

The Grand National

Another great race to attend is the Grand National, which takes place each April in Liverpool, UK. This is one of the biggest races in the world because it’s considered to be one of the most difficult. The jumps that the horses have to make are exceptionally high. As with the Kentucky Derby, visiting the Grand National isn’t just about the race. It’s about the overall experience. You’ll get to see world-class riders doing their thing, but you’ll also get to soak up the atmosphere.

Masters Golf

There are many great golf competitions. The British Open is iconic, for instance, and always throws up great excitement. But if you’re going to visit one golfing event, it should be the Masters. The British Open is a test of endurance with bad weather. Augusta, the course which hosts the Masters each year, is a delight. Of course, it’s not so easy to attend — you have to be a member, or know one, to get in. So if you’re eager to attend this event, you might want to begin networking now. If you can get there, you’ll be able to see the world’s best golfers playing at the highest level. And you might just witness an all-time great moment, like when Tiger Woods won his first way back when.

The FIFA World Cup

We talked earlier about the champions league final, the biggest club competition in soccer. But it’s not the biggest football event overall. That honour belongs to the FIFA World Cup. Held every four years somewhere in the world, this brings together qualifying nations, who all do battle to become crowned the best footballing nation on the planet. Of course, in reality, there’s only a handful of teams who are in with a chance of winning, but that doesn’t matter. No matter what game you go to, you’ll find that there’s a terrific atmosphere — even if the sides have no hope of progressing. It’s simply a fun, carnival-like atmosphere from beginning to end. It’s best to give yourself a few weeks so you can enjoy it to the fullest.

The Olympic Games

Is there any event bigger than the Olympic Games? Not just in sport — but all events? We don’t think so. This is peak athleticism. The great thing about attending the Olympics is that everyone just wants to have a good time — there’s no rivalry between fans. In every event, there’ll be a story, too. So it doesn’t matter whether you have tickets for the javelin or the 100 metres race; you’ll be sure to see something special.

The Winter Olympics

And what about the winter Olympics? Ok, it’s not as prestigious as the summer equivalent, but it’s still pretty special — and it’s always in a beautiful spot too. Get tickets for the snowboard half-pipe to see magic unfold before your eyes.

Tennis at Wimbledon

There are some events that are all action. And then there are events where you attend for the overall experience. The Wimbledon Tennis Championship falls into this category. While you’ll see excellent tennis play while you’re there, it’s as much about soaking up the atmosphere as it is seeing who wins. For the two weeks that the competition takes place, London is a terrific place to be, full of good times. Tickets for the final can be difficult to come by, but if you can make it, then you’ll be guaranteed to witness a historic moment — every final at Wimbledon is historic.

The NBA Finals

The NBA finals are just pure excitement. Spread over 7 games, it’s an exciting period, and you never know what’s going to happen. If you’re planning to visit, then give yourself time. There’s always a buzz in the host city, which draws thousands of fans from all over the world.

The Cricket World Cup

If you love cricket, then you’ll already know a lot about the cricket world cup, which is the premier cricket tournament in the world. Held every four years, it takes place in various parts of the world, though typically in places that have a big cricket following, such as South Africa, India, or England. The next one will take place in India in 2023, so you’ve got plenty of time to make your travel plans!

Major Rugby Events

Rugby may not be as popular as football, but the games can produce an atmosphere that’s just as good as what you’ll find at a football match. Indeed, sometimes even better! And especially if you go to the right match. Perhaps the most iconic rugby match is between New Zealand and Australia. They’re both excellent sides, and they have a fierce rivalry. Plus, if you’re there, you’ll get to see the famous New Zealand haka, a traditional dance that can be pretty intimidating for their opponents (though they won’t admit it).

The Tour de France

Finally, there’s the Tour of France, which is the biggest cycling competition in the world — and more generally, one of the most challenging sporting events. This is a fun event to attend for various reasons. First, it seems to attract a fun-loving, easy-going crowd. Second, there’s no stadium — if you’re watching a general leg of the race (rather than the final stretch), then you’ll find that you’re just perched on the side of a mountain. It’s super fun to just hang out with friends, looking out over a beautiful view, and then seeing the world’s best cyclist zip past you. Also, you’ll be amazed at how fast they can go, even when they’re cycling uphill.

Conclusion

So there you have it: a reasonably comprehensive list of all the best sports events to attend. Attending any of these will be special, and something that you’ll remember for the rest of your life, especially if the event you go to happens to produce a historical moment that’ll be talked about for decades.
