Nottingham Forest Sign Nigeria Forward Joy Omewa Ahead of WSL2 Push

Nottingham Forest Women have boosted their squad with the signing of Nigeria forward Joy Omewa from Danish champions Fortuna Hjørring. The 23-year-old has joined the club on a permanent deal that will run until the end of the 2025/26 season.

The club confirmed the transfer in an official statement, describing Omewa as a forward with strong experience and a winning mentality. Her arrival is seen as a key move as Forest aim for a strong finish in Women’s Super League 2.

Omewa joins Forest after an impressive spell in Denmark, where she spent five years with Fortuna Hjørring. During that time, she scored over 50 goals in all competitions and played a major role in the club’s success. She won two Danish Women’s Cups and helped the team secure the league title in the 2024/25 season. Her performances also earned her the league’s Player of the Season award.

The Nigerian forward began her career at home with Confluence Queens before moving to Europe in 2021. She first played for B.93 in Denmark, scoring three goals in nine matches, before switching to Fortuna Hjørring later that year, a move that proved vital to her development.

At international level, Omewa has represented Nigeria at under-17 and under-20 levels and earned her first senior appearance for the Super Falcons last year. She was also part of the squad that defeated Benin over two legs to qualify for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Forest head coach Carly Davies welcomed the new signing, saying the club is pleased to add a proven goalscorer to the squad. She praised Omewa’s sharp finishing and belief in front of goal, noting that her qualities will help the team push towards its targets.

Omewa expressed her excitement at joining the club, describing Nottingham Forest as ambitious and saying she is ready to contribute to the team’s progress in England.

Nottingham Forest currently sit sixth in WSL2, level on points with Newcastle United. With important matches against promotion challengers Birmingham City and Charlton Athletic ahead, Omewa’s signing is expected to give the team a timely lift.

She also becomes the latest Nigerian player linked with Nottingham Forest, following the presence of Ola Aina and Taiwo Awoniyi in the club’s men’s team.
