Osimhen Confident as Super Eagles Prepare for Mozambique Clash

Super Eagles and Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen has said Nigeria are ready to face Mozambique in the next round of AFCON 2025.

The 27-year-old has played in all three of Nigeria’s matches in Morocco. He also captained the team in a 3–1 win over Uganda, a proud moment for the striker.

Nigeria, who have won the AFCON three times, will now face Mozambique in the Round of 16. Osimhen says he has great confidence in his teammates.

He described Nigeria as one of the biggest teams in Africa and said other teams should be worried when they face the Super Eagles.

Osimhen believes Nigeria are among the favourites to win the tournament, after finishing second at the last AFCON in Ivory Coast.

He said the team respects every opponent but is not afraid of anyone. According to him, the knockout stage will be tougher than the group games, but Nigeria are ready to give everything.

Osimhen added that winning the AFCON would mean a lot to the players and the country. He said the team has one clear goal: to win the trophy and bring it back to Nigeria.

Despite winning all three group matches and taking nine points, Osimhen warned that the team must stay focused.

He said the players are taking the competition one game at a time and are not getting carried away by praise.

Osimhen also spoke about captaining the team against Uganda. He said it was a big responsibility, but one he enjoyed.

He explained that his job was to lead the players, motivate them and help those starting their first match at the tournament.

Coach Éric Chelle made several changes to the team for the Uganda match, resting some regular players. Even so, Osimhen played most of the game, despite already having a yellow card.

Many people were surprised he stayed on the pitch for so long, but both the coach and Osimhen agreed it was the right decision.

Osimhen said he always follows the coach’s instructions and is happy to play whenever he is needed.

Nigeria will face Mozambique in the Round of 16, with a place in the quarter-finals at stake.
