Three things Nigerians will love to see as Super Eagles face Lesotho
Nigeria will face Lesotho in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on November 16, here are three things Nigerians will love to see as the Eagles face the Crocodiles.
STATEMENT WIN
Nigerians are clear in desire to see the Eagles qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and so will want a statement win over Lesotho.
A big-win will send message to the other group A teams, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Benin Republic and Rwanda of the Super Eagles desire to right the wrongs of missing the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The last match Nigeria played at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo ended in 6-0 win over Sao Tome and Principe to conclude the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying series.
Coach Jose Peseiro’s charges are clear favourites to win the game as any other outcome will be a big shock and early setback to Nigeria’s ambition.
GOALS
The Super Eagles scored six in their last-game at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium Uyo, against Lesotho, Nigerian will love to see the team score goals for fun.
That desire may be a tough call with Napoli SSC striker, Victor Osimhen who scored a hat-trick vs Sao Tome and Pricipe, unavailable for the game.
In the abscence of Osimhen, Peseiro will call upon either Taiwo Awoniyi, Victor Boniface, Terem Moffi or Sadiq Umar, to lead his charge for goals.
The fans in Uyo will be voiceferous as usual and the more goals the Eagles score, the happier and louder the fans will become.
A CONVINCING GOALKEEPING DISPLAY
Nigerians will love to see a convincing goalkeeping display from Francis Uzoho who is favourite to start in goal.
Ojo Olorunleke and new-boy Amas Obasogie are the other two goalkeepers in camp, a signal Peseiro will stick with his man – Uzoho.
After the ugly episodes from the last International break, Nigerians will be happy to see Uzoho cut-off errors that have created concerns ahead of the AFCON in Ivory Coast.
Peseiro does not have time for new experiments ahead of the Nations Cup and so the thought will be to see Uzoho gain confidence in time for the fireworks in Ivory Coast.
