Women’s World Cup: Germany wipe sorry Morocco 6-0

Germany wiped a sorry Morocco 6-0 in their opening group fixture of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup on Monday July 24.

The African’s were playing in their first-ever World Cup game and were not given a warm welcome by their more illustrious opponents In Melbourne, Australia.

Germany took a deserved first half advantage courtesy of a Alexandra Popp double before adding four more in the second period to seal a 6-0 rout of Women’s World Cup debutants Morocco in their Group H opener.

Prolific German forward Alexandra Popp scored the first goal when she connected a corner-kick.

The Wolfsburg striker then doubled the lead from another corner-kick in the 39th minute for a 2-0 halftime lead.

Buhl made it 3-0 for Germany within half a minute of the Second half before Hanane Ait El Haj compounded Morocco’s woes when she turned into her own net in the 54th minute.

Ranked 72nd in the world by FIFA, Morocco could not resist the pressure from the Germans and that explains how Yasmin Mrabet got the second own goal of the game to put Germany 5-0 up.

Germany substitute Lea Schuller completed the rout, the biggest result yet at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
