Usain Bolt wins men’s 200m at London Anniversary Games
Usain Bolt has won the men’s 200m at the London Anniversary Games this evening.
The race initially got off to a false start that saw American Sean McLean shown a red card, but Bolt didn’t let that affect him and he cruised to the win in a time of 19.84s.
The six-time Olympic champion recently outlined his desire to break his own 200m world record of 19.19s in Rio de Janeiro this summer, and he admitted that he went into tonight’s race not at 100%.
“I’m not fully in shape, I need more work, but I will be fine. The key thing is I came out injury free so that’s the main thing. It’s a lot of fun, the energy is great and I love being here,” he told BBC Sport.
Great Britain’s Adam Gemili finished third behind Panama’s Alonso Edward in a season-best time of 20.07s, continuing a successful night for the home nation after Laura Muir broke Dame Kelly Holmes‘s national record for the 1,500m, while the Team GB women also set a new national mark in the 4x100m relay.
