Aussie Open 2022: Details as Novak Djokovic risks missing out

World number one and Australia Open defending champions Novak Djokovic may not participate in the 2022 Australia Open after latest development.

The 9-time Australia Open champion is currently reportedly held back from gaining entrance into Australia over COVIC-19 vaccine.

Novak who has refused to be vaccinated is against the vaccine but was given an exemption to enter Australia.

But he is presently unable to proceed through passport control after a member of his support team made a critical mistake in requesting a sub-class of visa that does not apply to those who have received medical exemptions from a Covid-19 vaccine.

It looks like the issue at hand is more than the mistakes made by Djokovic team as Australia Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Parliament members are kicking against his entrance.

Scott Morrison while speaking on the matter said Novak Djokovic must present a genuine medical exemption or leave the country.

“He needs to prove he has a genuine medical exemption from the COVID vaccine mandate when he enters the country or he’ll be on the next plane home,” said Scott Morrison.

Jaala Pulford an Australia Parliament member flat-out said the Serbian will not be given any support to participate in the tournament.

“The Federal Government has asked if we will support Novak Djokovic’s visa application to enter Australia,” said Jaala Pulford on her Twitter page.

“We will not be providing Novak Djokovic with individual visa application support to participate in the 2022 Australian Open Grand Slam.”

This means Novak Djokovic who is the clear favourite to win record extending 10th Australia Open Grand slam title could miss out this year.

The tournament is meant to start on Monday, January 17th and ends on Sunday, January 30th.
