Dele-Bashiru Speaks on Right-Back Role as Super Eagles Win AFCON Bronze

Lazio midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru has spoken about the challenge of playing at right-back for Nigeria in their penalty shoot-out win over Egypt, a result that secured the Super Eagles the bronze medal at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Dele-Bashiru finished the match in an unfamiliar position at right-back and later shared his thoughts on adapting during the game.
Asked about playing in different roles, the former Sheffield Wednesday player said he is comfortable wherever the team needs him.
“Yeah, I’m quite versatile,” he said.
He explained that he is always prepared to adjust when required by the coaching staff.
“I’m always ready wherever the coach wants me to play. Today it came as a surprise, but I think I tried to do my best,” he added.
Dele-Bashiru also spoke about how demanding the role was physically.
“It gave me a lot of respect for people who play right-back because it’s very, very tough running up and down the pitch,” he said.
“In the end I was dead, but yeah, I was just happy that we got the victory.”
Nigeria’s win over Egypt ensured the Super Eagles finished AFCON 2025 with a bronze medal, ending the tournament on a positive note.
