D’Tigres rivals Les Lioness start #AfroBasketWomen title defence with an easy win
The 11-time FIBA women’s AfroBasket champions, Les Lioness of Senegal, who are in the same group as Nigeria’s D’Tigres and their main competitors started their title defence in a convincing manner.
The serial African champions who are defending their title in Mali were too good for their Guinean opponents as they won their first game of the 2017 Afro Basket Women with a convincing 105-39 on Friday.
36-year-old Astou Traore led the Les Lioness in scoring with 26 points, 2 assists, and 2 rebounds. Apart from failing twice behind the arc, she practically made all of her field goal attempts as she made 12/13 of her 2 points attempts and 2/3 of the free throws she attempted.
While Mbaye led the Guineans in scoring with her 9 points of 3/9 field goals.
Nigeria’s D’Tigres will start their campaign today against fifth ranked Mozambique by 10:15 pm, their match up against the Les Lioness is the last game in group B will be played on August 23.
