Picks for EURO 2020 Fantasy Round of 16

We are gradually getting to the crunch moment at the 2020 Euro Championship. 32 teams started out but after three round of games in the group stages the numbers have been reduced to 24.

There were no shocking exit from the tournament thanks to a late Leon Goretzka goal for Germany, Hungary would have recorded a great upset.

All the pre-tournament favourites made it to the round of 16 with some of them already facing off at this stage.

Here is what the draw for the round of 16 looks like:

Belgium vs Portugal
England vs Germany
Croatia vs Spain
Italy vs Austria
Wales vs Denmark
Netherlands vs Czech Republic
Sweden vs Ukraine
France vs Switzerland

The crux of the matter is, which players should those participating in the Euro Fantasy pick ahead of the knockout stages.

Before we preview this, lets remind you that you have unlimited transfers for the round of 16.

• You can have four players per team

• The team budget has been increased from €100m to €105m

Now, this begs the question which players can we pick?

Below are our choices.

Goalkeeper

1. Gianluigi Donnarumma (5.6)

Italy will face Austria, Donnarumma seems to be the less-risky goalkeeping choice as he would probably keep another clean-sheet to add to what he had in the first three games.

Defenders

2. Leonardo Spinazzola (5.6)

Having raked up 15 points from his first two games, the Roma defender is a good pick for the round of 16 after he was rested for match day 3.

3. Denzel Dumfries (5.6)

Another player having a good outing so far and considering Netherland will play Czech Republic you should have him in your team.

4. Jordi Alba (6.1)

Good choice as he often pops forward to score goals or assist his attackers. He has accrued a total of 18 points in his last three games.

Spain will have a tough one against Croatia in the round of 16 but you expect Alba to play fine regardless.

Midfielders

5. Ivan Perisic (8.6)

If there is anyone the Croats will depend on for goals in their game against Spain it is the Inter Milan attacker.

6. Georginio Wijnaldum (8.1)

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder is a must for all fantasy players going into the knockout stage. He has gathered a total of 23 points from his last three games.

7. Emil Forsberg (7.7)

His brace against Poland dragged Sweden into the last round of 16 and they will be banking on him and Dejan Kulusevski to take them past Ukraine.

8. Manuel Locatelli (5.6)

The former AC Milan midfielder is one of the star players in Roberto Mancini Azzurri side. He was phenomenon in Italy’s 3-0 group game win against Switzerland on match day 2.

Rested for Italy’s last group game, he would be raring to go in the game against Austria.

Forwards

9. Cristiano Ronaldo (12.2)

The most prized asset at the 2020 Euros and he is for the obvious reasons. You can’t look beyond the former Real Madrid super star if Portugal will beat Belgium.

This is one of the most difficult games in the knockout stages but if there is anyone who rises above difficulty it is Cristiano Ronaldo.

He has scored a total of five goals in three games, two against Hungry, one against Germany and two against France.

Considering the oppositions he already bagged his goals against, I wouldn’t bet against him scoring against a shaky Belgium defence.

10. Ciro Immobile (10.1)

The Italian striker has been scoring goals for fun and would be hoping to continue against Austria.

11. Memphis Depay (10.1)

He has 20 points in his last three games and with a clash against Austria beckoning, you can bank on him to score or assist goals.

Bench

Maarten Stekelenburg (4.7), Pau Torres (4.6), Oleksandr Zinchenko (5.5), Pierre-Emile Højbjerg (5.5)

Think Cristiano Ronaldo should be an easy choice for the captain arm band.
