Samuel Eto’o parts with €90k to avoid jail time
Cameroon FA president pays for past crime
Cameroon FA president and football legend Samuel Eto’o has agreed to pay €90,000 to his abandoned love child to avoid a prison sentence this year.
Four-time CAF African Player of the Year award winner Eto’o was exposed by Erika Do Rosario Nieves in 2019 as having fathered a child, Adileusa, with her during his time as a young striker coming through the ranks at Real Madrid in 1999. The assertion was proven to be true by a court in 2022, and the legend was asked to pay a backlog of child support for his then-22-year-old daughter.
Eto’o refused to comply with the court injunction, leading to the daughter filing for his arrest and one-year incarceration in court. The court decided to put the case on hold before Eto’o chose to pay the sum in a bid to avoid prison.
The Cameroon FA president will make the payment of €90,000 to the child’s mother in one go, and face his responsibility from now on.
