Big Win for Flamingos as Nigeria Crush Algeria 4-0 in World Cup Qualifier

Nigeria’s U17 women’s team, the Flamingos, secured a brilliant 4-0 win against Algeria in the first leg of their FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup qualifier on Sunday at the Remo Stadium in Ikenne.

The Nigerian girls took control of the match from the start and never looked back. Queen Joseph gave the Flamingos an early lead in the 3rd minute, finishing off a neat through ball. She doubled the lead in the 16th minute with a strong shot that beat the Algerian goalkeeper.

Zainab Oluwaseun made it 3-0 with a smart finish in the 33rd minute, putting Nigeria firmly in control before half-time.

Algeria tried to fight back in the second half, but Nigeria’s defence stayed strong and kept a clean sheet. In added time, Aishat Animashaun scored the fourth goal to complete a perfect evening for the Flamingos.

The win gives Nigeria a big advantage going into the second leg in Algiers, where they will hope to finish the job and book a place in the final round of qualifiers for the 2025 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in the Dominican Republic.

Coach Bankole Olowookere and his team are now just one step closer to reaching the tournament, and Sunday’s result shows they have what it takes to go all the way.
