#ITTFWorlds2021: Quadri beats Karlsson in 7-set thriller to book a place in last 8

Becomes first African to get to quarters at the World Championships

Aruna Quadri has secured a place in the last 8 at the 2021 ITTF World Table Tennis Championships Finals after a 7-set win against Kristian Karlsson.

The highly rated African player continued his historic run in Houston with a hard-fought win against the Swede.

Quadri won the first game 11-9 lost the second set 5-11, won the third set 13-11.

He lost the fourth and fifth set 5-11, 6-11 before winning the 6th and 7th 11-8, 11-6 to secure a famous win.

So, Quadri has beaten Aliaksandr Khanin 4-0 in the 1st round, beat Vitor Ishiy 4-2 in the round of 64, beat Sathiyan Gnanasekaran 4-3 in round 32 and Kristian Karlsson 4-3 in the round of 16.

His run means he is the first African to get this far at the World Championships.
