LMC postpones Sunshine v Wikki clash indefinitely – What really happened?
The League Management Company has announced the postponement of the matchday one fixture between Sunshine Stars and Wikki Tourists.
The tie which was the only game of the opening day fixture who didn’t hold was pushed indefinitely by LMC according to a statement issued today.
“The League Management Company (LMC) has noted the stalemate arising from the fixture between Sunshine Stars and Wikki Tourists which was originally fixed for Sunday and subsequently rescheduled to Monday but did not hold.
The match has now been postponed indefinitely and the LMC will review the situation and make a decision in due course,” said LMC.
But what exactly is going on between the clubs and LMC?
According to a reliable source here is the details of what happened between two sides.
Wikki are under a ban from FIFA from playing new players
– The ban arose from their former Ghana Goalkeeper who reported to FIFA they are owing him $5,000
– FIFA ruled that Wikki must pay this money before they can play new players but once they pay the ban is automatically lifted.
– Wikki paid the $5,000 as directed by FIFA and sent proof of payment to both FIFA and Copied NFF and LMC.
– Wikki now wrote FIFA on the 12th of December requesting since they have paid they want to use their new players even though the ruling said once they paid it’s automatic but they wanted confirmation as LMC demanded certainty.
– The NFF and Wikki were pursuing FIFA for the okay but that didn’t come up to Sunday…
– Wikki have meanwhile traveled to Ijebu Odeh since Thursday and is hoping FIFA will okay even
By Sunday so they can play as they know they have complied.
– by Sunday FIFA okay had not come and LMC decided to play safe and thus won’t allow them to use the new players in their squad until FIFA okay and Wikki are now short of players and thus LMC directed they must bring additional players (old players and youth players) to make the squad to play today..
– Wikki complied and move additional qualified players yesterday to arrive at Ijebu Ijebu and thus LMC move the match to today.
– both match officials and sunshine were informed of this yesterday before the match time.
– the reason why Wikki didn’t turn up Sunday even though they were in Ijebu ode and trained on Saturday..
– sunshine now came with excuses they don’t have money to stay another night as they planned to play the match Sunday and move back the same day to Akure…
– LMC asked them
To submit their bills for another night and wikki would be asked to refund them.. they Still claimed they have no money to do anything to wait for a refund.
– meanwhile, sunshine suggested letting the match be moved to another date as they don’t want to even play against youth players from wikki and they have no even money.
– by Monday morning things seems to have calmed down and the two teams were asked to discuss and agree on the refund to sunshine so the match will be played. Sunshine proposes N1.6m while wikki offers less. In the end, LMC will decide after the presentation of bills by sunshine but the match should go on.
– suddenly sunshine refused to turn up claiming the deputy Governor said NO.
