Men’s Tennis Single: Djokovic keeps Golden Slam chase alive, eases into semi-final

World number 1 and the highest ranked player in Men’s Tennis at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, Novak Djokovic has advanced into the semi-final.

The Serb who needs an Olympics gold medal to complete a “Golden Slam” took a huge step in Tokyo on Thursday.

Novak Djokovic defeated the home favourite Kei Nishikori 6-2, 6-0 to book a place in the last four.

The the 20-time Grand Slam winner will now play against Alexander Zverev in the semi-final for a place in the final.

In the other semis, Pablo Carreno Busta will face Karen Khachanov.

Wins in Novak Djokovic next two games will earn him the Golden Grand Slam, which consists of winning all four Grand Slam events and gold at the Olympics.

Only four players have ever completed a career golden slam in tennis history: Steffi Graf, Serena Williams, Andre Agassi and Rafael Nadal.

However, only one of the winners, Graf, has won all in the same year to pull off a calendar golden slam.

Should Novak Djokovic win the Olympics gold medal and the US Open he could join Steffi Graf on the exclusive list.
