‘Luckily it’s not a bad sprain’ – Klay Thompson

Klay Thompson sprained his right ankle late in the Golden State Warriors’ 131-123 winover the Indiana Pacers on Tuesday. After contesting a shot by Chase Budinger, he appeared to land on teammate Shaun Livingston’s foot:

Thompson left the game, but told reporters that X-rays were negative and he should be fine in “a couple of days,” per ESPN’s Marc Stein.

“Luckily it’s not a bad sprain,” Thompson said, via ESPN’s Ethan Sherwood Strauss.

What’s really unfortunate, though, is how avoidable this was. In the first three quarters, Thompson scored 39 points, including 29 in the first half alone. Golden State led by 28 heading into the final frame, but its reserves let the Pacers all the way back into it. Thompson hurt himself after checking back in to try to save the game, but the Warriors should never have needed that.

Golden State is 23-0 on the year and, counting the last four wins of last year’s regular season, has tied the Miami Heat’s 27-game winning streak. Its next game is Friday in Boston.

No one wants to see this. (CSN)
