Team Nigeria win 9 gold medals at the 2019 African Weightlifting Championship in Egypt

Nigerian weightlifters were efficient at the just concluded Africa Weightlifting Championship held in Egypt.

Nigeria travelled to the championship with five athletes consisting of four female lifters and one male lifters.

The female lifters were Augustina Nwokolo (49kg), Chika Amalaha (55kg), Chinenye Fidelis (59kg) and All African Games gold medallist, Bilikis Otunla (76kg) while Joseph Edidong (67kg) was the only Nigerian male at the championship.

Three out of the five lifters contributed the nine gold medals that Nigeria won at the championship. Chika Amalaha (55kg), Chinenye Fidelis (59kg) and Bilikis Otunla (76kg) all won three gold medals each.

The team was led by coach Ojadi Aduche.

15 countries confirmed their participation in the championship. They are Egypt, Algeria, Tunisia, Uganda, Kenya, Lesotho, Ghana, Botswana, Cameroon, Madagascar, Nigeria, Morocco, South Africa, Mauritius and Libya.
