Nigerians Abroad: Ajayi, Awoniyi, Moses, Shehu & Etebo on target, Etor assists, Akpeyi, Mikel & Iwobi star, Awaziem, Okechukwu, Umar & Igahlo beaten

Friday and Saturday brought the usual for Nigerian players; for some it was goal galore while for few others it was heartache.

The likes of Semi Ajayi, Oghenekaro Etebo, Victor Moses and Shehu Abdullahi were not just on the scorers chart but we’re also on the winning sides.

The likes of Odion Jude Ighalo, Chidozie Awaziem, Okechukwu Azubuike and Aminu Umar were on the losing sides.

Here is a recap of the performances of Nigerian players who were involved for their clubs outside the shores of Nigeria on Friday and Saturday.

Odion Jude Ighalo (Shanghai Shenhua)

It was a nightmare debut for Odion Ighalo as Shanghai Shenhua suffered an embarrassing 4-0 home loss to Shanghai SIPG FC on Friday.

The 2018 Chinese Super League 3rd highest goal scorer was on able to save his side despite playing for 90 minutes on the day.

Taiwo Awoniyi (Royal Excel Mouscron)

The delight of the fans and media, Taiwo Awoniyi keeps giving the fans the reason the shout and journalists reasons to write with his spectacular display week in week out.

He was again on target for the 4th consecutive times and for his 6th in just 7 league games in Mouscron 1-1 draw against Standard Liege on Friday.

Semi Ajayi (Rotherham)

Former Arsenal trainee scored twice to help his side secure their first ever win since the New Years day and also increase their u beaten run to 6 games.

The Super Eagles defender scored Rotherham’s first goal and their 3rd goal in their 3-2 win against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.

Semi Ajayi has scored 4 goals in as many as 35 games more than most strikers have scored in the same number of games.

Victor Moses (Fenerbache)

Fenerbahce may have found their saviour after all after Victor Moses scored a late penalty in Fener 3-2 home win against Rizespor.

His goal from the spot ensured Fenerbahce secure the maximum points against 10-man Rizespor.

Chidozie Awaziem, Okechukwu Azubuike and Aminu Umar (Rizespor)

The Nigerian trio started the game as Rizespor went down to Victor Moses’ Fenerbahce on Saturday.

Chidozie Awaziem was on the pitch the entire duration of the game but Okechukwu Azubuike was subbed off in the 85th minute while Aminu Umar was taken off in the 73rd minute.

Shehu Abdullahi (Bursaspor)

Versatile Nigerian players, Shehu Abdullahi scored his first goal of the season for Bursaspor in their hard-fought 3-2 win against Sivasspor on Saturday.

His goal kick-started the comeback win for Bursaspor.

Oghenekaro Etebo (Stoke City)

Oghenekaro Etebo scored his first ever league goal for Stoke City as they secure an easy 2-0 win against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

The goal was Etebo’s first goal in as many as 24 games.

Etor Daniel (Al Nasr)

Nigerian International Etor Daniel assisted the only goal of the game as 10-man Al Nasr secured a 1-0 win against Al-Shabab on Saturday..

The former Enyimba and Rangers attacker has now assisted two goals in his last two games.

Daniel Akpeyi (Kaizer Chiefs)

Although Daniel Akpeyi conceded two goals, he was one of the best players on the pitch as Kaizer Chiefs beat Highland Park on Saturday.

John Obi Mikel (Middlesbrough)

Inability for Middlesbrough strikers to score open goals begging to be finished denied Mikel his third consecutive league win on Saturday.

As usual, Mikel Obi gave his best and assisted his teammates in doing theirs but didn’t take all the points thanks to the strikers.
